The City today announced that Kevin Walker will serve as its interim planning director, effective Monday, June 17. He will oversee comprehensive planning, urban planning, land use review and the development review enterprise. Walker will report to Deputy Chief of Staff Travis Easton. Easton will oversee neighborhood services.
Walker has had a long and successful career providing management services and working with homeowner’s associations in the Pikes Peak Region. He has a master’s degree in city planning from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and is certified by the American Planning Association as an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP designation).
Peter Wysocki resigned from his position as the City’s planning and neighborhood services director on Friday, June 14. During his time at the City, Wysocki oversaw the adoption of the City’s comprehensive plan, PlanCOS, and led efforts to develop and launch Retool COS, which was a major update to the City’s zoning ordinance.
“I am grateful for Peter’s service to the City of Colorado Springs and for his dedication to the Planning and Neighborhood Services Department over the past 12 years,” said Mayor Yemi. “Thoughtful growth and development and vibrant neighborhoods are vitally important to our work to create an inclusive, culturally rich, economically prosperous, safe, and vibrant world class American city on a hill that shines brightly, and our planning department plays an important role in this work.”
The City will conduct a national search for a permanent director of its Planning and Neighborhood Services Department.
