The traffic at Colorado Springs Airport (COS) has been on the rise, with July numbers indicating a year-over-year increase. Projections for the fall also point to high traffic volumes. In July, the airport saw a total of 250,761 passengers, marking a 9 percent increase from the previous July. Enplanements for the month were also up by 8.5 percent compared to the same time last year, totaling 124,808.
There were 11.5 percent more seats in the market than the same month last year, totaling 148,209 seats among the six airlines serving COS. The average load factor remained steady at 84.2 percent, similar to last July.
Some notable air service changes are approaching over the Labor Day holiday. Avelo Airlines will suspend its seasonal flights to Hollywood-Burbank (BUR) on September 1. Sun Country Airlines and Delta Air Lines Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) seasonal flight will also complete its seasonal schedule on September 2 and 8, respectively. Additionally, Southwest Airlines ceased nonstop service to Long Beach (LGB) on August 4.
Looking ahead, COS is set to introduce new seasonal service to San Diego (SAN) and San Antonio (SAT) for the holiday months. Flights will operate on peak days in November, December, and January.
Along with changes to air service, travelers can expect significant construction developments as ElevateCOS, the airport’s concourse modernization project, progresses. Gates 2, 4, and 6 have been completed.
