On December 30, 2023, at approximately 1:17 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a single motorcycle crash on I-25 near Woodmen Road. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and determined the motorcycle rider was deceased. Based on this information the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Witnesses stated that the motorcycle was traveling southbound on I-25 at a high rate of speed passing vehicles. The motorcycle lost control and went down near Woodmen Road. The rider was ejected into the center median and the motorcycle continued southbound and came to rest in the center northbound lane of I-25.

On January 2, 2024, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased motorcyclist and identified him as 20-year-old Micah Reese.

This was the 50th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2023. At the same time in 2022, there were 56 traffic fatalities. In the last 365 days, there have been 50 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
