Initiative aims to reduce ground-level ozone by increasing the use of public transit.
Starting Monday, July 1, passengers riding on Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) buses and Metro Mobility ADA Paratransit vehicles can enjoy free fares through August 31, 2024.
To celebrate the start of Zero Fare for Better Air, on Monday, July 1, MMT staff will be at the Downtown Terminal (Corner of E. Kiowa St. and Nevada Ave.) between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. talking with riders about transit and handing out popsicles and other fun items while taking part in the City of Colorado Springs 1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings initiative.
The free fares are made possible by Senate Bill 24-032, which allows Colorado transit agencies to receive an Ozone Season Transit Grant. The goal of this grant is to encourage the use of public transportation and reduce the number of vehicles on the road during the summer months when ozone levels are typically at their highest.
