Fountains and Spray Grounds
The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department manages several spray grounds and fountains that are available in the summer months (generally Memorial Day to Labor Day).
When the outside temperatures are not expected to reach above 65 degrees, sites may close for the day. Operations are expected to resume when the hot temperatures return. If in doubt, please contact the site prior to going for some water fun!

Lightning Safety Procedures
Lightning can occur with or without rain. Parks staff follow the “30/30” rule. This means when there is less than 30 seconds between lightning and the resulting thunder, fountains and spray grounds are turned off. They are turned back on 30 minutes after the last time thunder is heard. The same counting method will be used for hearing Bang to Bang or seeing Flash to Flash. Under 30 seconds, patrons should seek immediate shelter in a safe location until operations resume.
COVID-19 Safety Modifications
- Safety breaks will occur every hour for 30 minutes. The public must clear the deck while staff disinfects the area.
- Maintain a physical distance of 6 feet from members outside of your household.
- Wash or sanitize your hands frequently
- Face coverings are discouraged while in the water, but encouraged when out of the water.
- Arrive water/swimwear ready and leave directly from the spray ground/fountain.
- Bring your own filled water bottle. Drinking fountains are closed.
- Restrooms are strictly for handwashing and bathroom use only. They should not be used as changing rooms.
- Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who is sick.
- Spray ground/fountain use is for individuals and families only; no large, organized groups are allowed at this time.
- If sites experience excessive crowding, the spray ground/fountain will close.
