The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) TrackChair program aims to provide sustainable access for all to our parks and open spaces. This program utilizes all-terrain mobility devices to assist visitors with mobility challenges in exploring the trails and open spaces in Colorado Springs.

This program, a part of the Therapeutic Recreation and Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) programs, will remove barriers and allow visitors to explore designated trails not suitable for regular wheelchairs. To ensure the safety and comfort of participants, each unit is equipped with rear stability wheels, powered reclining chairs, a four-point harness, and attendant controls for volunteers or Park Staff to assist with maneuvering. Park staff are unable to assist with the transfer in/out of the chairs, so please bring any items you may need.

Reserve your hike:

Participation is free and reservations are required. Programming will be held on the following dates for 2024:

  • July 17th & September 18th – Blodgett Open Space

All hikes will take place from 8 a.m. to noon.

Items you may wish to bring:

  • Water
  • Any medication/medical supplies
  • Additional clothing layers
  • Sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, hat)
  • Snacks
  • Camera

Pet/service animal policy

Due to the inherent risk posed by the Track-Chair itself, and a concern for the safety of your pet or service animal, Track-Chair operators are not permitted to possess pets/service animals while operating the Track-Chair. It is not recommended that pets or service animals accompany you on your trip, however if it is necessary to bring your pet or service animal on the Track-Chair trip, they will be required to be kept under the control of an accompanying friend or caregiver. Pets are required to be on a leash and under control in the City of Colorado Springs unless posted otherwise at areas within specific parks.

Register for your hike

PRCS is in the early phases of the TrackChair program and expects increased availability in the 2025 season. Due to limited availability, we ask that each participant reserve only one timeslot to allow others the opportunity to participate. As we continue to grow, we encourage you to check out other opportunities available with El Paso County Parks and Cheyenne Mountain State Park and The Action Trackchairs were made possible with funding through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Equality Grant and the Colorado Springs Office of Accessibility.
