Testing Shows Contamination at Downtown Terminal

Samples taken from Mountain Metropolitan Transit’s (MMT) Downtown Terminal show methamphetamine contamination levels that exceed the cleanup standards set by the state of Colorado. MMT will hire a remediation contractor who is certified by the State of Colorado.  The facility will be tested again after the remediation work is completed, in compliance with state standards and to ensure the Downtown Terminal is safe for public use. The lobby and restrooms at the Downtown Terminal will remain closed until further notice.

Colorado Springs Airport Kicks Off TSA Queuing Construction Project

The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) has begun an expansion and remodel of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security queuing area. Construction is anticipated to be a four-month project from now through the end of September 2023. This expansion will allow for an enhanced passenger experience and further accommodate traffic through the checkpoint.

Fall soccer registration opens Monday

The City’s Sports Office opens registration for fall soccer on Monday, May 15. Thanks to a program created by Olympic City USA, the registration fee will be waived for the first 460 kids to sign up. Free spots are available in parks citywide from PreK-4th grade. The most spots will be available in the youngest age divisions and at practice locations in southeast and central Colorado Springs.

City Council seeks volunteers to serve on the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Advisory Board

City Council is seeking to fill two upcoming voting member positions on the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Advisory Board. This Board reviews matters pertaining to the planning, development, improvement, beautification, equipping and maintenance of the public parks, playgrounds, programs, urban forest, recreation facilities, and resources including golf courses and cemeteries. Applications can be found at ColoradoSprings.gov/boards and are due by Wednesday, May 31.

Living With Wildfire Townhall

The Colorado Springs Fire Department is hosting its next Living with Wildfire Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, May 16. These informative meetings will encourage residents living in our wildland-urban interface to engage in a conversation about wildfire risk in their area. The Living with Wildfire Town Hall Series aims to empower the community to be ready if a wildfire happens.

2023 Mayoral Run-Off Election Day is May 16

Voters have until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16 to return ballots for the 2023 Mayoral Run-Off Election to one of 26 drop-off locations. If voters did not receive a ballot or have questions about the election, they are asked to contact the City Clerk’s office at 719-385-5901 or visit ColoradoSprings.gov/Election. Initial results will be released on Tuesday, May 16 at approximately 7:30 p.m. via the city’s website, ColoradoSprings.gov and Twitter account.

Colorado Springs Police Department’s K9 Luna has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.  K9 Luna’s vest was sponsored by Deborah Collins of Colorado Springs, CO and embroidered with the sentiment “In honor of Ralph J. Collins”.

City Council seeks volunteers to serve on the Public Art Commission of the Pikes Peak Region

City Council is seeking to fill three voting seats on the Public Art Commission of the Pikes Peak Region. This Commission is charged with acting in an advisory capacity to evaluate, advocate, stimulate, and facilitate matters of public art and culture. Applications can be found at ColoradoSprings.gov/boards and are due by Friday, May 19.
